Preparation of Hazard Communication Labels
Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) labels are core tools in chemical safety management. Their preparation must strictly adhere to the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and national regulations.
The following introduces the preparation from four aspects: basis for preparation, core elements, design specifications, and implementation points.
I. Basis for Preparation
1. International Standards
GHS system: The global chemical classification and labeling standard issued by the United Nations, clarifying core elements such as hazard classification, pictograms, and signal words.
International transport regulations: such as IMDG Code (maritime transport), ADR (road transport), etc., have additional requirements for transport labels (such as UN numbers, transport pictograms).
2. Chinese Regulations
Regulations on the Safe Management of Hazardous Chemicals: Mandatory requirement that hazardous chemicals must be affixed with GHS-compliant labels.
GB 15258-2009 "Regulations on the Preparation of Chemical Safety Labels": Specifies the content, format, and printing requirements of the label.
GB 30000 series standards: Refine the classification and labeling standards for chemicals.
II. Core Elements
1. Chemical Identification
Chinese and English names, Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number (CAS number), component information (hazardous components with a concentration ≥1% must be listed).
2. Pictograms
Use the 9 standardized symbols stipulated by GHS (such as flame, skull, corrosion, etc.), red border, black symbols, white background.
3. Signal Words
"Danger": Used for severe hazard categories (such as carcinogenicity, acute toxicity).
"Warning": Used for less severe hazard categories (such as irritation, sensitization).
4. Hazard Statements
Describe the inherent hazards of the chemical (such as "Flammable liquid, Category 2"), which must be consistent with the GHS classification.
5. Precautionary Statements
Includes preventive measures (such as "Keep away from heat"), emergency response (such as "Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention"), storage requirements (such as "Store in a cool, dry place"), and waste disposal (such as "Dispose of through a professional agency").
6. Supplier Information
Company name, address, emergency telephone number (24 hours).
7. Reference Information Statement
Mark "See Safety Data Sheet (SDS)".
8.24-hour emergency contact number
